László Szabó, Acting Director, Operations Command, HDF General Staff were also present at the farewell ceremony of the ten soldiers departing for the Central Asian country. Their tour of duty begins on January 8, 2011 and finishes on May 31.

“The task that is waiting for you is a complex one, with many challenges"  emphasised Brig Gen. Csaba Varga in his address following the parade of the unit colours and the national anthem. “You will have to train the soldiers of the Afghan army in an operational area, in order that the army can function properly and take over the duties that are currently performed by the international forces. The foundations have been laid, now you have to continue the work that has been started by the first two rotations"  pointed out the brigadier-general. Csaba Varga reminded the members of the AMT that their task is also complex because no such trainings have been run in Afghanistan for decades.

“In Afghanistan, there is still a war"  the brigadier-general referred to the fact that despite their mandate that forbids participation in specific combat operations, Hungarians will perform their duty in a highly dangerous place. “Take care of yourselves and each other, help each other!"  Csaba Varga told the troops, underlining that during the months of preparation, the new troop rotation has turned into a loyal community the members of which can work for each other. “You should work together with soldiers of other nations in a way that they can say Hungarians are professionally trained and helpful peacekeepers!"

The brigadier general thanked the families attending the event for the stable and loving back country they are providing at home for the soldiers on duty. “The military profession cannot be practiced without this"  he pointed out, stressing that the members of the departing rotation have been selected from the best troops. “The main thing is that you should perform your duty safely, in compliance with the regulations, in a disciplined manner. Today the main assets of the Hungarian Defence Forces are still our well-trained soldiers who love their profession"  said Csaba Varga.

Finally the brigadier general wished the third AMT rotation a safe return to Hungary and told them that they are expected to demonstrate their willingness to make sacrifice, their responsible and hard work, specialist knowledge, thereby earning recognition for Hungary, the Hungarian Defence Forces, and themselves. “I wish you enough power, health, and soldier’s luck. Return to Hungary safe and sound, with many experiences!" The event ended with the Szózat.

The HDF AMT has been serving in Afghanistan since April 2010. The task of the team is to run aviation trainings (theory and practice) for the combat helicopter crews of the Air Force of the Afghan National Army, participate in the corps-level operation of the helicopters, and mentor this activity.
