Easter Greetings in Sarajevo

Like in every mission, Easter was celebrated by the HDF EUFOR Contingent in Bosnia-Herzegovina too. Below is an account from the peacekeepers serving in the Balkans.

It was almost like home. There was a ceremonial service with Communion, sprinkling with poems, Easter ham with egg and good spirit. The girls were beautiful, just like at home (perhaps even more so), and the boys were busy sprinkling and complimenting them, then they started making arrangements for the Hungarian evening. The supper was taken in a familiar, intimate atmosphere.

The only reason for it having been “almost" like home was that although the members of the Hungarian contingent did their best to provide the usual, home-like circumstances, nothing was able to make up for our family members’ absence, as we miss them more and more. Yet there was strength and consolation in all communal events on these two days.

The hope in the resurrected Christ and the jointly taken Easter ham supper brought the taste of home to Sarajevo for some moments.

The supper opened with EUFOR-10 HUNCON Commander Lt.-Col. Tamás Papp’s words of ceremonial greeting and with Maj. Gergely Hankóczi, Reformed field chaplain’s quoting from Psalm 133.
