20 years in NATO (Part 1)

On the occasion of this anniversary, we have selected some photos from among those published on the website of the Alliance in order to present the history of the past two decades through a characteristic event of each year.
16th March 1999 – NATO HQ Brussels – Ceremony to mark the Accession of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland to the North Atlantic Treaty
8 June 2000 – Meeting of the Defence Ministers – Family Portrait – János Szabó, Minister of Defence, Hungary
29 May 2001 – Meeting of the Foreign Ministers in Budapest, Hungary – Mr. Viktor Orbán (Prime Minister of Hungary); NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson; Mr. L. Verbruggen (Executive Secretary).
6 March 2002 – NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson, in the presence of the Ambassadors of the Member and Partner nations, unveiled a work by the British painter Ashley Jackson commemorating the 11 September 2001 attacks in the United States – Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns, US Permanent Representative to NATO; NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson and Ashley Jackson.
15 October 2003 – Inauguration Ceremony of the NATO Response Force (NRF) and handover of command of NRF at AFNORTH HQ, Brunssum, The Netherlands. – Left to right: General James L. Jones (SACEUR) and General Sir Jack Deverell (Commander-in Chief AFNORTH).
2 December 2004 – Ceremony at Camp Butmir marking the end of NATO’s SFOR Operation and the establishment of the EU Operation “ALTHEA" – Address by NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer
16 June 2005 – Handing over Ceremony of the Chairmanship of the Military Committee – NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer officially welcomes the new Chairman of the Military Committee, General Ray Henault.
24 October 2006 – NATO Secretary General joins commemorations of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 – Ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight of 1956
7 Nov 2007 – Ceremony on Kossuth Square, in the presence of the NATO Secretary General and several ministers of Defence to honour Hungarian and other ISAF contingents returning from duty in Afghanistan
27 June 2008 – outgoing Chairman of the NATO Military Committee General Ray Henault and the new Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giampaolo di Paola
