Under the supervision of the General Staff Force Planning Directorate, an English-language international CBRN Warning and Reporting Course for evaluators was recently launched at the HDF Artúr Görgei CBRN Area Control Centre (HDF CBRN ACC).

During the two-week course held in Budapest, besides the CBRN evaluators of the HDF CBRN ACC, several invited lecturers from the HDF Geoinformation Service, the National University of Public Service and the HDF Medical Centre also delivered high-level lectures.

In the interest of strengthening international CBRN defence training and preparation, five participants from three NATO member countries – Belgium, the Czech Republic and Spain – were introduced to the CBRN evaluation procedures in accordance with the latest NATO standards. They learned the methods for quick assessment of the CBRN situation in the interest of supporting the commanders’ decisions. In addition, the training audience also acquired techniques for immediate Warning and Reporting and hazard prediction of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents for organizations in danger, in order to be able to reduce casualties, ensure combat efficiency and survivability and minimize risks. At the end of the course, the students took an exam.

The CBRN evaluator’s job is not only focused on the analysis of the impact of possible uses of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in armed conflicts, but also encompasses the evaluation of chemical substance releases and times of arrival calculation in the event of peacetime industrial disasters and road transport accidents.

To ensure the continuous operation of the Hungarian Defence Forces CBRN Warning and Reporting System, every year the HDF Artúr Görgei CBRN Area Control Center organizes similar courses in Hungarian for HDF units and also as part of servicing the educational institution of the HDF NCO Academy. The course is expected to be organized in 2019 too.
