The Challenges of Coalition Warfare

Between 16-20 April, the Conflict Studies” working group of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes organized an international conference with the title “Alliance planning and coalition warfare: historical and contemporary approaches” in the Central Military Club of the Serbian armed forces in Belgrade.

The symposium was organized by the Austrian Heeresgeschichtliches Museum and the host, the Institut za Strategijska Istrazivanja Univerzitates odbrane MO Republike Srbije. In their presentations, the lecturers introduced various aspects of the challenges characterizing coalition warfare from the 1815 conference of the Holy Alliance to our days.

Twenty-six scientific representatives from some 20 countries held presentations at the event, including leaders and representatives from scientific institutions specialized in military history research and military history museums of neighboring countries.

Hungary and the Hungarian Defence Forces were represented by Maj. Dr. Viktor Andaházi-Szeghy, a staff member of the General Staff Scientific Research Centre. In his presentation, the major analyzed logistic issues of the military alliance of the anti-Soviet military operation in 1941, and drew its lessons in a historical perspective.

The Serbian and Austrian organizers will publish the conference proceedings in 2019.
