Ákos Pikó, the student of the Debrecen-based Vocational Training Centre Brassai Sámuel Grammar School and Technical Secondary School joined the system of volunteer reserve of the Hungarian Defence Forces in June this year. In what follows, the 18-year-old student participated in the training composed of ten modules in Hajdúhadház. Maybe he has’nt even thought, that he will use the lessons learned there so soon…

“We were sitting and talking with a group of friends on the square in front of the Déri Museum, when we noticed that on a bench not far from us a young girl felt sick" – the reservist PFC informed us. “Her friend rushed to us to ask for help, and she seemed frightened, she trembled, she was probably in shock. While we hurried to the bench, I immediately remembered all that we learned on the health sessions from Sergeant Major Károly Kovács, the non-commissioned officer of the 2nd Training Company. I found that the girl had no breathing, and her pulse was weak, therefore I started the resuscitation, and the artificial respiration. Luckily, her breathing returned shortly, so I placed her in the recovery position. The ambulance arrived at that moment, and took over her care following this" – Ákos recalled the event.

Lieutenant Colonel István Czill, the Head of the Preparation Division (Debrecen) of the HDF Augmentation, Preparation and Training Command, personally expressed his appreciation to Ákos Pikó reservist PFC for his exemplary accomplishment. He said, he is proud of his reservist soldier, who did not panic in an emergency situation, but used what he learned calmly, bravely, professionally.
