Recently, we could witness a beautiful example of the revival of military traditions in Hyde Park, London, when – as a guest superior – His Excellency Reserve Captain Mr. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Hungary’s Ambassador to the UK, inspected the Parade of the freshly trained cavalry of one of the most reputable British formation, the Royal Household Cavalry Regiment, established in 1658.

Usually high-ranking British or Commonwealth military officers are requested to conduct the parade inspection, such an honour is a rare privilege for an ambassador. Res. Capt. Szalay- Bobrovniczky served as the team Commander of the Honvéd Palace Guard, and he preserves the Hungarian military traditions as a hussar captain in the troop of the Honvéd Zrínyi Sports Association’s Military Equestrian Division, re-enacting the Imperial and Royal 1st Hussar Regiment (Emperor’s Hussars) constituting part of the Centenary Military Heritage “Honvéd" Infantry Brigade. Interesting, that in the “ancestor" of the latter formation his Grandfather served also as a Hussar Captain between 1914 and 11918.

At his post, in London, His Excellency formed comradely relations with the officers of the Royal Household Cavalry Regiment, and as a result, he was invited for the pass off parade of the honour horsemen of the formation concluding their 20-week training. During the parade the cavalry had to demonstrate not only their equestrian skills, but that they became real cavalrymen, with regular equipment, and with safe competence in military formalities.

Upon the request of the English hosts, the Ambassador appeared in full dress uniform in the event, i.e. in Hussar uniform, known and recognised all over the world as Hungarian.
