We are ready to support any initiatives, which lead to the revitalisation of the economic and trading relations and also to upgrading political contacts between the European Union and Thailand – Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő stated after receiving in his office H.E. Jakkrit Srivalit, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Budapest.

The Minister also mentioned that the Government is building relations with Thailand in the framework of the policy of Eastern opening, and although military-to-military relations haven’t yet been established between our countries, our motherland is open for co-operation. It would also be worthwhile to explore the potentials lying in the field of education and training – added Tibor Benkő.

The Ambassador said that sport is an excellent instrument to intensify friendly relations, and so he offered that the Hungarian soldiers participate again in the Thai Boxing Training Course to be held in the first week of June. As is well-known, the first training course for soldiers was first organised between 18 and 22 September, 2017 in the Budapest Thai Box Academy, which was found extremely successful by both parties. Thanks to the offer, the soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces (HDF) can take part in learning about the traditional martial art, which serves also as the basis of the preparation of the soldiers of the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

Minister of Defence said thanks for the offer of the Thai Box program, and then he highlighted that sport and military physical education play a vital part in the training of the HDF soldiers, and in carrying out their everyday tasks. As he pointed out, the military close quarter combat is paramount as part of the military PE, as in the course of acquiring these techniques our soldiers will be capable to perform their special tasks even more professionally whether within the country, or in missions abroad.
