The Hungarian Liaison Monitoring Team (LMT) has completed its mission in Pec/Peje, Western Kosovo. The Hungarian peacekeepers handed over the area of responsibility to their Italian colleagues after more than two years.

More than two years ago, on December 21, 2009 the first Hungarian Liaison Monitoring Team took over its area of responsibility and started work in the town of Pec/Peje in Western Kosovo. Subsequently five troop rotations deployed for six months of tours of duty each.

The LMT functioned as a system for prevention and prediction within KFOR, as it reported on a daily basis to the Commander of KFOR through the Joint Regional Detachment West (JRD-W) on the security, economic, social and political situation in Kosovo.

The Hungarian troops have completed their mission: the members of the HDF KFOR Contingent LMT-1 handed over the area of responsibility to their Italian colleagues in the last week of January. On January 31 the Hungarian flag was lowered for the last time to the tunes of the Hungarian national anthem and the Il Silenzio.

Col. Andrea Borzaga, the Commander of the KFOR Multinational Battle Group-West (MNBG-W), Lt.-Col. Isidoro Cacace, the commander of JRD-W, and several representatives of the other LMTs operating in the JRD-W area of responsibility attended the exceptional flag-lowering ceremony in honor of the Hungarians.
