Four reserve officers from the Veszprém organization represented the Association of Hungarian Reservists (Matasz) at the 8th International Military Competition (8. Internationaler Militärwettkampf) held in Austria.

Situated in a scenic environment, the military training center (Truppenübungsplatz) in the village of Hochfilzen hosted the marksmen from the invited countries. There are several shooting ranges on the base, and the biathlon events of the Winter Olympics are regularly organized here since the surroundings offer an excellent venue for this type of contest too.

The German, Dutch, British, Hungarian, US and of course Austrian reservists accepted the invitation to the competition. In contrast with previous years, there were fewer participating teams because this year the Czech, Polish, Slovak, Croatian and Romanian reservists from the region of Central Europe did not enter the competition. Eventually more than 160 marksmen registered for the contest.

Col. Elmar Rosenauer, the President of the “Field Marshal Joseph Wenzel Radetzky" Comradeship Association (Kameradschaft FM Radetzky Oberösterreich) received and welcomed the guests. All competitors fired three sighting and ten competition shots with the StG-77 5.56mm assault rifles in service with the Austrian armed forces. The best shooter of the Hungarian team, Lt.-Col. (Ret.) Dr. Gábor Csutorás was awarded a silver medal. Col. Rosenauer presented the competitors with the certificates of merit and the medals at a ceremony.
