Hungarian Soldiers Provide Support Again

In the early afternoon of Wednesday, May 28 ten food-carrying trucks driven by Hungarian peacekeepers of the EUFOR Multinational Battalion left Sarajevo for the flood-stricken areas of Bosnia-Herzegovina. One of the trucks headed for the town of Kakanj, while the other nine for warehouses of other aid centers.

On an earlier occasion, Hungarian soldiers serving in Bosnia-Herzegovina have already joined the relief efforts in the aftermath of the natural disaster striking the country, when they delivered civil aid transport to the town of Maglaj, and launched a convoy of 12 vehicles to carry a British rescue team to a town in the north-east.

The Hungarian Defence Forces have been participating in Operation EUFOR Althea of the European Union since 2004. Currently around 160 Hungarian troops are serving with the EU-led operation in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The position of the Chief of Staff in the mission has been filled by a Hungarian general for years.
