For the second time in this year, between November 7–11 the HDF Central Training Base (HDF CTB) in Szentendre hosted the St. Margareth Logistic Information Training Exercise (MAGLITE), an international command post exercise.

Five instructors and 32 students of the British Defence College of Logistic and Personnel Administration – including three Czech, two American, one Ukrainian and 23 British ones – and the students enrolled in the training, military logistics and military economy courses of the ‘Zrínyi Miklós’ National Defence University took part in the exercise, and the University of Defence in Brno also sent some participants. The objective of the unilateral, one-phase command post exercise was to work out the concept of a logistic supply chain for a joint peace support operation.

The scenario of MAGLITE 2011 focused on the planning and execution of humanitarian missions in the area of a fictitious state in order to stabilize a crisis situation. The task involved the strategic deployment to the area of operations of one transport battalion, two (Hungarian and Czech) infantry battalions and the Hungarian and Czech National Support Elements (NSE) as well as the management of the supply chain.

To resolve the crisis emerging within the scenario, the UN and the government of the fictitious state requested the quick deployment of military support forces in the conflict area with the required equipment and capabilities to execute pre-defined tasks. According to the scenario, the mission was accomplished by a Hungarian and a Czech infantry battalion of the Austrian–Czech–Hungarian–Slovak Peacekeeping Brigade (ACHSPKBDE) and a transport battalion of the HDF 64th ‘Boconádi Szabó József" Logistic Regiment.

Speaking at the ENDEX, Col. Tibor Deme, the Chief of Staff of the HDF CTB stressed that, by drawing on the lessons learnt during the previous exercise, the one-week MAGLITE effectively served the purposes of planning the synchronized deployment of the logistic forces contributed by different nations.
