Maj. Róbert Nagy, the chief instructor of the training told us that the mentor team is going to deploy to Kabul as part of the German-led Combat Service Support (CSS) School. They are responsible for supporting and assisting the trade training (specialization) for the logisticians of the Afghan National Army (ANA). The core task of the three Hungarian mentor teams is to mentor the personnel of the ANA CSS School and provide them with advice in the fields of movement, maintenance/repair and catering, so that they can independently plan, organize and conduct training programs for army logisticians.

During the first week of the training the personnel practiced radio communication in English and brushed up on NBC defence, mapping and first aid skills. They also attended sessions on stress management, engineering and C-IED procedures, and they executed the required peacekeeping target practices as well.

The second week of the training focused on the theatre-specific details. The training audience attended a presentation on the military geography of Afghanistan and the cultural and religious characteristics of the area of operations.

Concurrent with this training, the key leader training for the fifth rotation of the HDF National Support Element was also in progress in Szolnok.

The National Support Element has the mission of providing logistic, financial and personnel support for the Hungarian contingents participating in NATO-led ISAF operations and soldiers who fill individual positions. Based in Mazar-e Sharif, Balkh Province, the contingent has been carrying out combat service support tasks in the theatre since August 2010.
