Logistics under Transformation

„The streamlining of the logistic support system of the defence sphere, the assignment of human resources and means to the real tasks, and the rationalisation of the procedures is still underway in our days. The new challenges and the situation of the world economy give new tasks for the logistics” – we heard this statements at the festive staff-meeting held in Székesfehérvár on November 30, on the occasion of the Day of the Logisticians.

During the event the greeting letters of Minister of Defence Dr. Csaba Hende and the Chief of the MoD Defence Staff Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő were read out, in which the superiors – apart from the above-mentioned changes – spoke with the highest appreciation about the everyday activity of the whole logistic personnel of the armed forces. As was heard, the logisticians “have given evidence in several situations of their high professional standards", both in Hungary and abroad.

Lajos Fodor, the State Secretary for Public Administration in his festive address underlined: the precise execution and co-ordination of the logistics tasks constitutes the basis of all military activities.

“The greatest challenge of our days is to assure a solid background for the HDF troops, so that they can perform their everyday routine work successfully, even if in narrow circumstances. The logisticians’ skill level and approach are indispensable for this. I know it from my own experience that the logisticians have never had rehearsals, they have always executed real-life tasks" – the State Secretary said.

Lajos Fodor expressed his thanks to the specialists of the logistics organisations (HDF Logistic Supply Centre, HDF Hazardous Material Supply Centre, HDF 64th “Boconádi Szabó József" Logistic Regiment and HDF Aircraft Repair Plant) for their whole year’s work. In connection with the latter he said that the military organisation is prepared for putting the Finnish helicopters in service.

He highlighted that at his entry into office the leadership of the Ministry of Defence set as their main objective, taking into consideration the economic capacity of the country, to lay the foundations of a modern, well-equipped, well-trained military. “In attaining these goals the expertise and work of the logistic personnel will be even more appreciated. We have been working to gain back the capabilities of the Hungarian Defence Forces lost earlier, or at least to create the basis for regaining them. Without capabilities, combat equipment and well-trained soldiers we cannot speak about armed forces" – the State Secretary established.

At the ceremony Lajos Fodor, Lt.-Gen. Zoltán Orosz, the Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff, Brig.-Gen. Csaba Varga, the Chief of Staff of the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC), and Dr. Gyula Keszthelyi, the General Director of the HDF Armaments and Quartermaster Office (HDF AQO) presented tokens of appreciations.
