Nearing the completion of their six-month tour of duty in Sarajevo, the soldiers serving with the 12th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent received ALTHEA medals at a ceremony held on June 25.

Since September 1 last year, the Austrian and Hungarian maneuver companies of EUFOR have been serving in a rotational system, which means that the Hungarian company has been on standby for nearly a year as part of the Intermediate Reserve in Hungary, ready to deploy to Bosnia-Herzegovina at short notice, and the Austrian company has served in Sarajevo.

A small reception support element of the 12th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent is currently deployed in Sarajevo. It is responsible for supporting the redeployment of the Hungarian company, which is presently on standby at home. The Hungarian company on standby was called upon to deploy to Bosnia-Herzegovina only to participate in an exercise, so fortunately it did not have to perform any live action there.

The maneuver company of the incoming Hungarian contingent will take over the tasks from the Austrian unit, and will serve in Sarajevo for a period of six months. Just one week before the arrival of the rotation, Maj.-Gen. Dieter Heidecker, the commander of EUFOR gave a speech at the medal parade, in which he stressed the importance of the mission and thanked the Hungarian troops for their six-month service.

It was Hungarian senior national representative Brig.-Gen. (Eng.) József Szpisják, Chief of Staff, EUFOR HQ who presented the medals to the Hungarian soldiers.
