According to standard operating procedures, the MPs can take action in cases like this, so they held down the man, took his knife away and notified the police. They held back the man until the police arrived on the scene, and then handed him over to the authorities for further measures.

Since last autumn, the Hungarian Defence Forces have been maintaining a strong presence of military police patrols in public areas of several cities around Hungary. During this time, they have already intervened on a number of occasions to protect citizens.

Over the recent period, the Ministry of Defence took several measures, including a proposal to amend the Fundamental Law, which made it possible for the soldiers to directly serve and increase the security of Hungarian people. The present case shows that the soldiers are well-prepared and committed to the defence of the country and the Hungarian people.
