Range Day on the Hilltop
Szöveg: Béla Révész | 2013. május 18. 9:59As part of their training for the upcoming CREVAL procedure, the soldiers of the HDF 5 “Bocskai István” Infantry Brigade recently participated in a target practice held in the Bakony Hills.
The exercise was special because this has been the first such target practice in recent years.
Since the Rezi training base was closed down, the Hungarian soldiers haven’t had many
opportunities to hold high-terrain target practices in Hungary. Now with the help of the HDF
Bakony Combat Training Center the 5/24 “Bornemissza Gergely" Reconnaissance Battalion
set up an ad hoc firing range on Mórocz hilltop, which offered a good venue for mastering or
brushing up special skills.
First the scouts conducted the special target practice, and afterwards the other subunits also
had a chance to test the physically challenging steep fire lanes.
Seven soldiers from each of the three companies of the 39
forms the backbone of the NATO-declared Infantry Battle Group (IBG-2) – took part in this
unaccustomed training session. The non-organic scouts used assault rifles with silencers to
hit the targets during the complex series of tasks on the hilly terrain. The heavily rugged and
partly covered, steep terrain required the small units to perform highly coordinated fire and
maneuver.
The special target practice was inspected by Maj.-Gen. László Domján, the commander of the
HDF Joint Force Command.
