Safe Accommodation Container Block for Our Troops

On July 14, Hungarian troops in Afghanistan received a block of armored accommodation containers. The new facility serves their safe living and working conditions.

Until now the personnel of the Hungarian ISAF contingent have been accommodated in container homes rented from the German partners and in German BW-type tents. From now on, thanks to a Hungarian procurement, they have SAEBU-type container homes to live in. Commissioned by the MoD Armament and Quartermaster Office (MoD AQO), Col. (Eng.) István Balassa, the Commander of the HDF National Support Element-3 signed the record of transfer and handed over for use the newly built block – which comprises 32 containers – to the NSE-3 contingent. The representative of the German contractor and the soldiers serving in individual positions in Mazar-e Sharif also attended the handover event.

Col. Balassa gave a short briefing to the lined-up Hungarian troops on the preliminaries to the investment. Following his Christmas-time visit in 2010, the Defence Minister took steps to establish safer living and working conditions for the Hungarian troops. The MoD AQO partnered with the HDF Joint Force Command to organize and carry out the construction of the containers. The conditions that the inaugurated block of armored accommodation containers provides for the Hungarian contingent are similar to those of other troop contributing nations (TCNs). Concurrent with the handover, the contractors started laying the foundations of the office containers.
