Security Always Comes First
Szöveg: Maj. László Bártfai | 2012. január 24. 10:39On January 18 Col. Dr. Romulusz Ruszin – the commander of the 11th rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-11) in Afghanistan –, handed over a newly set up police vehicle checkpoint on the southern edge of the town of Pol-e Khomri.
After assuming office in 2011, Gen. Sherzad, the police chief of Baghlan Province immediately started the reinforcement of the local police forces and the reorganization of their work. The general’s actions earned recognition form the leaders of the province, but that fact in itself proved to be insufficient to improve the security situation, so there was a need for introducing a number of innovations. The police chief gives top priority to the round-the-clock operation of the vehicle checkpoints and the constant presence of the police in the town.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Gen. Sherzad said that there had already been a checkpoint at the southern gate of Pol-e Khomri, but so far the policemen had to stop traffic for the time needed to inspect the trucks passing through the checkpoint. The newly inaugurated police checkpoint is equipped with a vehicle search bay, which enables the check of the freight traffic at random, and the selected vehicles can be separated from the flow of traffic during the time-consuming procedure, which the policemen mainly use to search the trucks for explosives and drugs.
In his speech delivered at the handover ceremony, Col. Ruszin stressed the importance of security and the need for the crackdown on crime, adding that it was the reason why the HUN PRT supported the implementation of the project in the shortest possible time.
