The cooperation is continuous between the Austrian National Defence Academy and the HDF Military Augmentation, Preparation and Training Command (HDF MAPTC). On this occasion, Dr. Walther Wintschalek, Head of the Finnish Language Department of the Language Institute of the Academy has already paid his seventh visit to the HDF MAPTC Department for Doctrinal and Field Manual Development.

Professional cooperation between the Academy and the command started in 2011, and covered the translation, language editorial work and terminological development of the German–Hungarian, Hungarian–German Militärwörterbuch (dictionary of military terminology) as well as other publications. In the last six years, Dr. Wintschalek gained an insight into the work of the Terminological Harmonization Board responsible for the development of Hungarian military language. During his visits, he was introduced to the STANAG translation bureau of the department. The experiences he shared have contributed to a more effective application of the TRADOS translation software, which was used by eight professional military translators over the last two years to translate 19 NATO doctrines and other military documents, a total of 1211 pages, through which the bureau played a significant role in preparing the Host Nation Support and Joint Force Doctrines.

This year Dr. Wintschalek presented some publications of the academy and the military encyclopedia of the Austrian armed forces to Lt.-Col. Csaba László Boros, a senior officer of the department representing this special field.

Dr. Wintschalek met with Col. Dr. habil. Zoltán Jobbágy, Vice-Dean for Academic and International Affairs, National University of Public Service (NUPS) Faculty of Military Sciences and Officer Training, and with Dr. Gabriella Kiss PhD, Head of the Foreign Language Training Centre, with whom he discussed the possibilities of mutual exchange of native language teachers. He also conducted discussions with Dr. Mária Wéber, a teacher of the NUPS Foreign Language Training Centre, with whom they had collectively developed the German–Hungarian, Hungarian–German military terminology dictionary Militärwörterbuch between 2013 and 2015.

Following the meeting, HDF MAPTC Commander Brig.-Gen. Attila Takács praised the excellent performance of the department in 2017, which has contributed to the modernization of the field manuals of the Hungarian Defence Forces. In the general’s opinion, the Department for Doctrinal and Field Manual Development represents important values in international professional communication too, which is indispensable in the system of military alliance, as the Hungarian Defence Forces can only meet the challenges of the age if they perform their everyday tasks by modern and professionally well-founded field manuals, which also facilitate international cooperation.
