The HDF 5th ‘Bocskai István’ Infantry Brigade recently held a conference on the preparation for the NATO CREVAL training process in its Hódmezővásárhely garrison, with a view to discussing the arising issues.

The acronym CREVAL stands for the Combat Readiness Evaluation of Land Headquarters and Units. These battalion-level units are declared to allied operations (as a NATO Command Force/NATO-assigned force) and are placed under the command of the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). The Hungarian Defence Forces Infantry Battle Group (HDF IBG) is based on the 62nd infantry battalion of the brigade, its command group, staff and subunits.

In his opening speech at the conference, Brig.-Gen. János Huszár pointed out that the CREVAL will be carried out one year ahead of the original schedule. The Land Force Chief of the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) answered on the spot the questions about some problems that may be solved on the level of the HDF JFC.

Maj. László Deme, the designated commander of the HDF IBG reported on the plans that have been drawn up so far, the requirements and the main dates in the schedule of the training period, then went on talking about the training-related tasks and their planned venues.

At the following panel sessions, the participants discussed in detail the system of training and the problems that have arisen. Brig.-Gen. Dr. Gábor Böröndi, the commander of the brigade specified the main tasks related to the evaluation, and declared the upcoming CREVAL, which is due to take place in fall 2012, a priority of the year.
