On February 20, Col. Dr. Romulusz Ruszin, the commander of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT) handed over “For Peacekeeping” Service Medals to Croatian, Albanian and Montenegrin troops in Camp Pannonia, Afghanistan.

The recipients of the “For Peacekeeping" Service Medal are all soldiers of any nations who serve in the interest of Hungary. The event was also important for the troops serving together with the Hungarians because it signals that their six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan is nearing completion. The Croatian, Albanian and Montenegrin soldiers wear the medals rightly and proudly, because through their service they have contributed a lot to the successful operation of the 11th rotation of the HUN PRT.

Speaking at the medal parade, Col. Ruszin thanked the troops for their dedicated work, and for giving top priority to service while being far away from their homeland and families. He said that life requires all soldiers deployed in the area of operation to keep fit both mentally and physically.

During the ceremony, it was revealed that the asymmetric warfare of our age makes it almost obligatory for the nations to send troops to war-torn regions with the mission of laying down the foundations of peace. Montenegro, Albania and Croatia have provided great assistance to Hungary and the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team in this mission.

“I believe there must be a moment in every soldier’s life when they can say in an elevated tone that they have served abroad. This is the moment that remains in memory for a long time. I know that home means safety for any soldier, so I wish you now a successful return home as soon as possible", the Hungarian commander of the PRT said.
