Three-Star Visit

Szöveg: AAT-9 |  2014. szeptember 25. 10:13

Lt.-Gen. Joseph Anderson, Commander, ISAF Joint Command (IJC) recently paid a visit to the ninth rotation of the Hungarian Air Advisory Team (AAT-9) deployed in North Afghanistan.

The commander, who was visiting the commander of the Train Advise Assist Command – West (TAAC-W) – left Herat to make a short trip to Shindand Air Base – the duty location of the AAT – which is just a 30-minutes flight away from there.

To the great surprise of the US military leaders in Shindand, apart from a US force protection subunit at the base, the general expressly wished to meet the Hungarian team. The meeting took place in the Hungarians’ living tent, where the general asked the team members for their opinion about the results achieved in Afghanistan.

Close to half of the AAT-9 personnel have been serving with the advisory mission for the second time, so they have a perspective on the current and past situation (what went on 1-2 years ago), and the progress that has been made during this time.

Lt.-Gen. Joseph Anderson thanked the Hungarians for their work, and praised the efforts and determination of the servicemembers of all nine rotations that have been working here. He pointed out that the results achieved in the development of the Afghan Air Force would not have been possible without the contribution of the coalition partners, including the Hungarians.

In gratitude for his service, the general presented a token of appreciation to Maj. G. O., the commander of the AAT-9.

The HDF Mi–17 Air Advisory Team has been continuously working at Shindand Air Base since 2011. The members of the small team – all drawn from the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base – provide academic and on-the-job flying training and aircraft maintenance mentoring for the Mi–17 helicopter crews of the Afghan Air Force.
