The 31st meeting of the Visegrad Four will be held in Hungary between 3-7 May. On the occasion of the talks of the V4 countries’ working group for human resource management in the military, Mr Zoltán Pajna, the deputy mayor of Debrecen received the Polish, Czech, Slovakian and Hungarian delegations in the city.

"This meeting is a great honour for the brigades. The main reason why the Ministry of Defence has invited the delegations to this city was that by showing the achievements of the 5th ’István Bocskai’ Infantry Brigade, Hungarian experts can give ideas to their foreign colleagues," Col. Dr. Péter Lippai, the chief of staff of the infantry brigade told honvedelem.hu after the meeting at the Town Hall of Debrecen.

The colonel said that at the Tuesday afternoon meeting the Hungarian delegation presented the human and family support scheme, with special focus on supporting the families of troops on mission. "As regards the support of servicemen at home, we have discussed the issue of employment opportunities and the introduction of various services, moreover the national defence education of children and the Katonasuli (Soldier School) program were also on the agenda," Col. Lippai emphasised. In response to our question the colonel pointed out that regarding the assistance given to families of soldiers on mission, the foreign experts have shown a great interest in how Hungary is treating this issue. "By adopting ideas, we can increase our so-called retaining power and contracted soldiers will be more attached to their place of work, their corps," the colonel added.

Prior to their accession to the European Union and NATO, V4 countries had already organised regular meetings and they still do, to discuss the commitments of the countries, interest reconciliation and cooperation.

Countries participating in the Visegrad talks have set up various working groups of which the group dealing with human resource management in the military and procurement and activation of military equipment has continued the cooperation after the accession. Working groups are seeking the most efficient methods, solutions and the best possible tools for vindicating interests together.

The main topic of this year’s meeting is the defence forces’ changed humanitarian duties and their tasks in the alliance and the EU.
