Charity Run in Camp Butmir

The non-profit association “Collaboration for the Disabled Children” arranged a Charity run called Run for the Disabled Children on May 5 in Gyula. The foundation has already helped the children of many soldiers, so the 22nd rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent (EUFOR-22 HUNCON) joined the event, and organised a sympathy run in the territory of Camp Butmir in Sarajevo. The 7, 14 and 21 kilometre distances could be completed in sports and field clothing.

In the increasingly international competition ninety one competitors took part despite the rainy weather. In addition to the Hungarians, British, Irish, Polish, Slovakian and Turkish soldiers entered, supported the noble cause with their donations, and completed the various race distances.

The race distance was accomplished by Brigadier General Gábor Horváth, Chief of Staff EUFOR, and Colonel Ferenc Könczöl, Chief of Staff NATO Headquarters, Sarajevo as well.

The half-marathon distance was completed by thirteen competitors, and for nine of them it was for the first time to have successfully completed the 21 kilometres. Staff Sergeant Dávid László Lévai was the fastest on the most challenging distance; his race time was 1 hour, 36 minutes and 25 seconds.

The objective of the race was raising funds: as a result more than a quarter of a million forints accumulated. This amount was transferred for the foundation by the organisers.
