As One Team

Szöveg: HDF OMLT |  2012. november 3. 6:12

A long time has passed since we commenced our service in Baghlan Province, Afghanistan with the eighth rotation of the HDF Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT). We perform our duties and overcome all problems that life presents us with. The 55-strong Hungarian military contingent executes its tasks shoulder to shoulder with the members of the 12-strong US team. Reporting from the spot.

The operations and patrolling tasks planned jointly by the OMLT and the staff of the Afghan battalion made it easier and quickly strengthened the trust in the leadership of the Afghan battalion, which the preceding rotations built up and maintained week by week.

The mentor teams of the companies train for and execute the tasks together with the Afghan companies. While at home, the members of the mentor teams already knew that this mission will be different from all other missions, as it will present them with serious challenges in task execution, so teamwork is an indispensable condition for its success.

Training between the operations also plays an important role in the life of the Afghan battalion.

The company mentors contribute the equipment available to them and their high-level professional knowledge to achieving the results. Thanks to the excellent working relation, the Hungarian commander pinned the new rank insignia on the US soldiers, while the US deputy commander on the promoted Hungarian soldier, thereby strengthening the American–Hungarian friendship.

Every month the US troops receive several packages from their loved ones at home and from the communities participating in the family support system. The US logistic NCO – through his Catholic parish community – requested a personal pack for each Hungarian soldier serving with the OMLT, which was a great surprise and pleasure to our troops.

Once in a month we take time to congratulate those who have their birthday in that month. Although we serve far from our families, these occasions provide us with a great opportunity to introduce the love of the home into our everyday routine which we are getting used to.
