The Hungarian soldiers are participating in a three-week international training event, the Georgia Mission Rehearsal Exercise (GMRE), during which, alongside the US Marine Corps (USMC), they are preparing a Georgian light infantry battalion before its deployment with NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

The first week of this year’s GMRE in Hohenfels was taken up with preparation. After a rollover training with the armored HMMWV, the soldiers designated for driver positions took part in driving practice. Besides, the soldiers of the Hungarian Cadet Company also practiced the execution of those tasks that would be assigned to them in a later phase during the exercise. They also attended several specialized training events, such as, for example, C-IED training sessions.
The second week was about cohesion-building, when the Hungarian officer cadets and NCO candidates, the Georgian troops and the US Marines worked together under the mentoring of Hungarian trainers to practice the expected tasks of the exercise. During team-building at platoon and company levels, they standardized procedures and established the chain of command.
The LIVEX took place on the last week. The officer cadets designated to commander positions led and directed their comrades’ activities in simulated situations. The mounted patrols, set up and manned checkpoints, and carried out search and recovery tasks, during which they were looking for weapons, forbidden tools and wanted persons in populated areas.
The officer cadets of the HDF Ludovika Battalion and the NCO candidates of the HDF NCO Academy will return to Hungary at the end of February.
