The Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff opened the Defense Cooperation Initiative Meeting in the morning of November 20 in Budapest, where representatives of five countries were discussing the stability of the security situation in the Balkan-Adriatic region. While developing a coordinated approach, soldiers from Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy and Slovenia are exploring the scope of multinational defence initiatives. In this circle, the last meeting was organized in Italy during the summer.

The lieutenant-general greeted the participants on behalf of Minister of Defence Csaba Hende and Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the Defence Staff. In what followed, Zoltán Orosz stressed that the relations between the participating countries are already good, but defence cooperation can be strengthened further, and thanks to the regional ties, the armed forces can work together like “an alliance in the Alliance". In this regard, the more efficient management of the available financial resources as well as the parallel exercises, training activities and the regional-level coordination of defence industry capabilities are equally relevant.

The two sides also discussed the security issues of the Balkans, because due to its proximity, the situation of the region affects all participants.
