ALP-Program: They Intend to Extend it to Other Parts of the Province

A press briefing was held at the end of October in Camp Pannonia, the base of the 11th rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-11) in Afghanistan.

During the event, the Governor of Baghlan Province, Mr. Munshi Abdul Majeed, Mr. Asadulah Sherzad, the Provincial Police Chief, Lt.-Col. Janulah Allah Safi, the Commander of the 3rd Battalion of the Afghan National Army (ANA) stationed in the Province, and HUN PRT Commander Col. Dr.  Romulusz Ruszin jointly informed the population of the province and the representatives of the press about the significance of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) program. As the speakers pointed out, the implementation of this program is of key importance in the creation of the lasting stability of Baghlan Province.

We were told during the briefing that the ALP is a police organ recruited from the local people, the task of which is to provide security at a given settlements. The provincial Police Chief emphasized that the ALP is the most efficient organisation in the local counter-insurgency (COIN) operations. He added that the program will be further expanded in the future; they want to extend it to the other settlements of Baghlan Province.

In reply to the journalists’ questions the PRT Commander said that besides the development of the country, ISAF continues to lay a great emphasis on supporting the Afghan Security Forces.

Col. Dr. Romulusz Ruszin underlined that the international coalition forces will do their best in the future as well to further increase the efficiency of the Afghan security forces.

At the end of the program the HUN PRT Commander congratulated Lt.-Col. Safi, the Commander of the 3rd Battalion of the ANA on the achievements and the excellent command of the operations carried out in the northern part of the Province.
