During his visit, Maj.-Gen. László Domján – who was joined by Dr. Péter Kveck, Hungary’s
ambassador to Cairo and Lt.-Col. József Szabó, defence attaché – personally learnt that the
MFO leadership is continuously monitoring the activity of groups of supposedly Islamic
extremists and criminals, reacting to all threats at the same time. To deal with the subversive
actions on the rise, which affect the MFO personnel as well, they have introduced more
effective regulations and, in view of the current security situation, launched medium-term
developments, mainly to improve physical safety.

The MFO personnel have worked out and been drilled in a system of precautionary
measures. The support from the security forces of Egypt is instrumental in taking the proper
countermeasures and the implementation of the force protection system.

MFO Force Commander Maj-Gen. Warren James Whiting informed the guests about the
situation in the area of operations, pointing out that both the Egyptian and the Israeli sides
are interested in the stability of the security situation in the Sinai Peninsula, and so they are
cooperating in an exemplary way.

The MFO Force Commander, the HDF JFC Commander and the ambassador jointly
discussed the current security situation. The Force Commander praised the high professional
standards of the Hungarian contingent. He stressed that the members of the Force Military
Police Unit (FMPU) are doing a very important job in the present security environment in the
interest of maintaining discipline and the safe workings of the mission.

While in the MFO North and South Camps, Maj.-Gen. Domján personally learnt that the
challenges of the changing security situation have not had a negative impact on the everyday
life of Hungarian soldiers and policemen, who are doing their job by the expected standards,
taking an active part in the life of the mission, giving good performance at sports events and
maintaining excellent relationships with the personnel of other contingents.

The commander of the HDF JFC held staff meetings to brief the personnel on the current
issues of the Hungarian Defence Forces. During these meetings, the participants also discussed how domestic training can be adjusted to address the challenges of the mission.
