On January 3 Col. Dr. Romulusz Ruszin, the commander of the 11th rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-11) opened an IT and English language course at the base of the non-governmental organization (NGO) ‘Social Institute of Support of Women and Children’ (SISWC) in Pol-e Khumri, Afghanistan.

The commander was received by SISWC NGO Vice-President Ahmad Zai at the Pol-e Khumri base of the organization, in a classroom formed inside a building of a factory which had already seen better days but is currently functioning as a mill. The SISWC NGO has been maintaining relations with the HUN PRT for several years. During the recent period the HUN PRT mainly supported sewing courses that were run here for Afghan women.

Arrangements for launching the IT course started in response to a request received in last October. The PRT’s donation provided the computer software and hardware infrastructure for the IT and English basic language course. The children can attend the course regardless of their ethnicity and gender. The organization provides altogether 80 persons with an opportunity to complete the course in six months. Due to the strict traditions in education, boys and girls must attend classes in different school-times.

In his speech delivered at the launching of the course, Col. Ruszin pointed to the importance of educating children, stressing that with the help of the internet, information technology combined with English language skills will open the way for knowing the world.
