Hungarian-German War Graves Care Technical Co-operation

The discussion affecting current technical issues between the MoD Military History Institute and Museum Directorate of War Tribute and War Graves Care (HM HIM KEHI) and the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge (VDK) was held in the conference room of Hotel Hadik, on Wednesday, 10th July.

The VDK (German War Graves Commission) delegation was led by Head of Section Mr. Arne Schrader and the HM HIM KEHI working group by Lt.-Col. Roland Maruzs, Deputy Director. In the discussion, present were on each side, the experts dealing with the practical tasks of war graves care, and the related records, the staff members competent in the matters arising in the Southern and Eastern European region – in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia.

During the consultation, bearing in mind the need for further co-operation, the parties reviewed the issues and lessons of the matters, which still have to be resolved, and the tasks of mutual interest for both organisations, to be performed in the future. They informed each other about the proposed solutions of strategic nature of the tasks arising in the region concerned, and they reached an consensus in many current issues.

Seeing the effectiveness of the discussion, the parties committed themselves to pursue further close co-operation, and to make similar meetings a regular event.
