The Stability of the Balkan Region Including Kosovo is a Priority for Hungary

Minister of Defence Dr. Tibor Benkő received Mr. Rustem Berisha, the Minister of Kosovo Security Force (KSF) in his office on Friday, 23rd November, in Budapest.

During the meeting Dr. Tibor Benkő pointed out that the stability of the Western Balkans is the fundamental interest of Hungary. One means of resolving the problems affecting the region can be the path leading to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration, thus Hungary is determined to continue to support promoting Kosovo’s integration efforts.

Minister of Defence emphasised that we wish to maintain our international military contribution (KFOR) in the future, as in the view of the Ministry much remains to be done in order to guarantee stability and security in the region.

The general security of Kosovo is guaranteed by NATO through the KFOR-operation, in which the Hungarian Defence Forces have participated since 1999. The about 400-strong Hungarian contingent stationing in Kosovo is currently our largest operational engagement.
