Helicopter Pilots and Ground Crews Get Mentoring

A farewell ceremony was arranged for the soldiers departing for missions on Monday, December 19 at the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base. The sixth rotation of the HDF Air Mentor Team – AMT deployed in Afghanistan at the end of December, while the second rotation of the HDF Mi-17 Air Advisory Team – AAT is about to start service in the first days of January, 2012.

Their comrades, friends and family members bid farewell to the members of the sixth rotation of the HDF AMT, and the second rotation of the HDF Mi-17 AAT in Szolnok.

At the farewell ceremony Lt. Gen. Zoltán Orosz, the Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff, Brig. Gen. Csaba Varga, the Chief of Staff the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) and Brig. Gen. Imre Lamos, the Commander of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base said goodbye to the service members departing for tours of duty abroad.

The greetings of the Minister of Defence Dr. Csaba Hende and Chief of the MoD Defence Staff Gen. Tibor Benkő were conveyed to the members of the contingents by Lt. Gen. Zoltán Orosz.

“Our Allies always speak highly of the work of the Hungarian soldiers. The standards are set high, but being aware of your professional preparedness, your vocation, I am convinced that the members of the rotations preparing for departure at present will carry out their duties on the same high level, as their predecessors did. Represent our Homeland, the Hungarian Defence Forces worthily! Pay attention to each other; take care of yourselves, so that after the successful mission we can welcome you home again in good health and strength!"-said the Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff.

The sixth rotation of the HDF Air Mentor Team consists of six members; the commander of the contingent is Maj. Attila Suszter. They provide theoretical and practical flying training for the attack helicopter crews of the Afghan Air Force, and also for the ground crews tasked with the aviation unit maintenance (AVUM) of their helicopters.

The second rotation of the HDF Mi-17 Air Advisory Team is made up of eight members; the commander of the team is Maj. Tibor Balla. They are tasked with the training and further training of the Mi-17 transport helicopter crews, and preparing them for the aviation unit maintenance (AVUM) of the helicopters.
