Hungarian Soldier Wins Two Silver Medals at Swimming Championship

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) organized its Swimming Competition 2014 between June 16–20, with the participation of more than 100 entrants. Ten nations participated in the competition, and the Hungarians entered four soldiers altogether. UNIFIL is the United Nations’ peacekeeping contingent in Lebanon.

The swimming championship was hosted by the MWR center of Naqoura Headquarters. In the individual men’s and women’s categories, the participants were competing in 40 and 100 meter freestyle, breast-stroke, backstroke, butterfly and medley swimming events. Additionally, 160 meter team relay swimming races were organized as well.

2nd Lt. Mihály Sándor, a soldier of the Hungarian contingent (HDF Geoinformation Service) reached the finals with the second best times in the 40 meter freestyle and the 40 meter butterfly events. During the finals, he gave an excellent performance again, and was adjudged Silver Medal Winner in both events.

At the official award ceremony, the UNIFIL Deputy Force Commander presented the competitors with the well-deserved medals, certificates and cups, and praised the outstanding sport achievements.
