On October 30 the nominated personnel of the HDF Support Brigade “Maléter Pál” Military Police Battalion were tasked to escort a column to the Hegyeshalom border station. They were already on their way home, heading on motorway M1 in the direction of Budapest, when at milestone 32 they noticed a trailer truck rolled over in the opposite lane.

On noticing the accident the military policemen called the police and drove to the first exit so they can provide assistance to the Romanian drivers of the trailer truck as soon as possible. They cordoned off the accident scene properly and started directing traffic to the inside lane. The drivers survived the accident with some minor injuries, but the MPs noticed that the fuel tank of the trailer truck got damaged in the rollover, and diesel oil was flowing to the electronics. They shut down the power supply to avoid fire and explosion in the vehicle which could have caused a major catastrophe.

Until the arrival of the police patrol on duty, the military policemen – Sgt. 1st Class Attila Gregus and S/Sgt. Gábor Posta – and the drivers – L/Sgt. Endre Tamási and L/Sgt. István Babér – were helping the injured by giving them first aid and diverted the traffic.

On November 7 Brig.-Gen. István Kun Szabó, the commander of the HDF Support Brigade personally thanked the soldiers for the full performance of their duties and presented them with tokens of appreciation.
