NATO ambassadors and parliamentarians discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and took stock of the progress of transition. They also reviewed the development of NATO’s Missile Defence system, the Smart Defence agenda and options for NATO to enhance political relations and practical cooperation with partners.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen also had bilateral discussion with the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Dr Karl Lamers.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is an inter-parliamentary organization of legislators from NATO member countries and 14 associate members. The Assembly is independent of NATO but provides a link between NATO and the parliaments of its member countries to help build parliamentary and public understanding for Alliance policies.
