Special Opportunity for Language Learning

Szöveg: honvedelem.hu |  2015. június 5. 9:00

The Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) program is taking place for the second time this year in the framework of US–Hungarian military cooperation. During the three-week program, students of the Reserve Officer Training Corps program are teaching English to the designated personnel of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

As an offset for the language proficiency training offered by the program, the group of American students takes part in equal proportion in military professional and cultural programs introducing the Hungarian society. In the framework of the CULP program, one native English speaker who is a student of an institution of higher education in the United States provides language proficiency training for two Hungarian students. Thus the three 8-man American groups participating in the program promote the development of altogether 48 Hungarian officers and NCOs.

In the first days of the visit, central cultural programs were organized for the US participants of the CULP program, who were introduced to the sights and history of Budapest, given a taste of Hungarian cuisine, shown around in Parliament building and saw quality exhibitions in the MoD Institute and Museum of Military History. They had opportunity to see the natural scenery of the Danube bend and met the officer cadets of the HDF Ludovika Battalion.

According to plans, in the next period the CULP groups of students are going to visit the HDF 5th “Bocskai István" Infantry Brigade in Hódmezővásárhely, the HDF 59th “Szentgyörgyi Dezső" Air Base in Kecskemét and the HDF 54th Veszprém Radar Regiment and the HDF Air Command and Control Centre in Veszprém. The military professional programs for the students in the designated garrisons include route marches, target practice, driving practice, land navigation, professional presentations, visits of military organizations and other military professional programs.
