Szöveg: Sándor Galambos |  2012. szeptember 6. 16:52

The multinational tactical air exercise Logical Decision 2012 started with the participation of 10 helicopters and some 300 troops in Szolnok on September 4. The exercise sponsor is Brig.-Gen. Imre Lamos, the commander of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base. The exercise director (EXDIR) is Maj. Péter Simon, the acting commander of the attack helicopter battalion. The helicopter pilots of the Hungarian Air Force conducted the first joint exercise of this type with our NATO partners in 2006.

Hungarian, Polish, Macedonian and Slovak helicopter pilots, AVUM crews and land force
units are participating in the tactical air exercise Logical Decision 2012 which started on
Tuesday. Brig.-Gen. Imre Lamos, the commander of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base
welcomed the some 300 participating soldiers, then the nations introduced themselves and
held the mission briefings. The cohesion building for the helicopter crews started with a
formation flight of 10 aircraft in the afternoon of September 5, then continued with two
sorties of different profiles the same day. Next week the crews will conduct air-to-ground
gunnery at Táborfalva, and the culmination exercise will take place on September 13.

Brig.-Gen. Imre Lamos told us that most of the missions they have built into the scenario
of the exercise are such that as NATO allies, they are tasked with carrying out them jointly
in the area of operations. Based on the lessons learned in previous years, we can safely say
that helicopters play a decisive role of increasing importance in the support of land force
units. This exercise provides an excellent venue for the soldiers of participating nations to get
to know each other’s procedures, helicopter types and to get a clear picture of each other’s
capabilities in planning the missions to be executed.

Maj. Péter Simon added that in comparison with previous years, a novelty of this year’s
exercise is that a dual-level staff element – consisting of a joint force staff and a battalion-
level one – is supporting the commanders’ work. The exercise director emphasized that
beyond the joint work, the following days will provide the soldiers with an opportunity to
get to know each other, so they will meet as friends in the areas of operations. Their mutual
trust does not only enhance the individual’s safety but also has a positive influence on the
operability and the effectiveness of the organization.
