The officer cadets graduating in military economics from the National Public Service University Military Science and Officer Cadet Training Faculty and the students of the University of Defence of Brno (UD Brno) and the Vienna-based Logistics School (Heereslogistikschule) of the Austrian armed forces recently started the FOURLOG 2012 logistics training program in Vienna.

The objective of the exercise was to provide the participants with opportunity to practice the professional tasks of logistic support in a multinational environment in a foreign language. Throughout the exercise the students were working in syndicates formed of the officer cadets of the three participating nations, and received all information and briefings on the tasks in English. Of course, all the reports were given in English too.

According to the scenario, a multinational peacekeeping brigade was deployed in a country torn by ethnic conflicts. The 18 Hungarian, seven Austrian and 16 Czech students had to execute very complex tasks, as their roles changed several times in line with the various duties ranging from logistic subunit commander to logistic corps officer.

The international significance and recognition of this program is reflected in the fact that in addition to Brig.-Gen. (Eng.) Dieter Jocham, the commandant of the Bundesheer Logistic School and Col. Dr. Gábor Boldizsár, the dean of the Military Science and Officer Cadet Training Faculty, Brig.-Gen. Kurt Wagner, the military commander of Vienna also welcomed the participants.

The logistic leadership of the Austrian armed forces observes the conduct of the exercise every year with great interest. Brig.-Gen. Norbert Gehart, Head of MoD Logistic Planning and Coordination Division, Bundesheer also attended the opening ceremony.
