Welcoming the EU Presidency

Szöveg: honvedelem.hu |  2011. január 1. 11:11

The Zrínyi Média heartily welcomes Hungary’s EU Presidency as well as the international respect and task for our country. We are going to express our thanks in our own way. The English-language book entitled ‘1000-1100 years ago…’ is to appear at the end of January, covering a period from Árpád to King St Stephen. To be published at the end of April, the exclusive album ‘For the homeland to the death’ will introduce Hungary’s 1,100 years in defence of the Carpathian Basin. As of 3 January, our present new homepage www.hungariandefence.com carries the news about the Hungarian Defence Forces, like another homepage, the redesigned www.honvedelem.hu. The magazine Defence Mirror Extra, our English-language special issue to be published in mid-January, also fits in this project. The following is the Introduction to the book ‘For the homeland…’

“There are few European states which have been in existence and constantly and maintained their statehood for 1100 years

Arriving in the lands around the Tisza and the Danube in 895-896, the Magyars occupied the whole of the Carpathian Basin within a few years and unified the smaller peoples who lived there. In 907, at the Battle of Pressburg, they demonstrated to the whole of Europe their determination and ability to defend their new homeland. After nearly a century of military expeditions across Europe, the new country finalised its borders and established its authority. Its rulers, and particularly the first king, St Stephen, made Hungary into a respected force in Europe, the continent for which it was to serve as a defensive shield over the next thousand years. The House of Árpád, named after the prince who led the Hungarian Conquest, became Europe’s greatest dynasty, with no less than five saints of royal blood: Stephen, Emeric, Ladislas, Elizabeth and Margaret."
