The European Christian civilization has become fragile

Speaking on Thursday in Tata, at the farewell ceremony of the 18th rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces KFOR Contingent, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó stated that the present period has made the European Christian civilization fragile. There are people in Brussels and elsewhere who would like to make us forget that we must reinforce these values.

“Brussels is racing the member states to see who can make bigger promises and do more, and to fundamentally change European Christian values", István Simicskó added.

The Minister of Defence pointed out that Hungary has taken considered and good steps in the last three years, and “sets an example to several countries of Europe".

He added that the government has done its best to make sure that Hungarians can live in security. This is equally true of the southern border, Kosovo and elsewhere, as the soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces are present in 14 countries.

The minister said that the soldiers departing for a six-month tour of duty abroad are allowed, for one time only, to return to their families for four or five days. He also noted that the Hungarian Defence Forces have placed an order with Ikarus for 100 new buses, of which 40 will soon be delivered.

The personnel of the 355-strong 18th rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces KFOR Contingent are drawn from 26 military units. Most of them – 260 soldiers – serve with the György Klapka Infantry Brigade in Tata.

Hungarian peacekeepers have been present in the Western Balkans since 1995. The KFOR mission is the most significant stabilizing force in the region, and Hungary has been participating in it since its beginnings in 1999.
