Parade of Nations in Norfolk
Szöveg: honvedelem.hu | 2018. május 11. 12:12It is already the 65th time that the spectacular flag-raising ceremony of the Allied Command Transformation – ACT has been organized in Norfolk in these days.
Traditionally, the Virginia International Tattoo – in other words military band festival and NATO Festival – starts with this event, and the procession of the military bands and dance groups of the NATO nations.
The guests of honor of this year’s ceremony were the nine veterans, who were rewarded with the highest and most prestigious national decoration for their heroic war feats, the “Medal of Honor".
The Parade of Nations was staged during the next days, and the NATO international village was also presented. One of the most popular coaches of the Parade was the Hungarian float, on which the Hungarian Parliament was displayed.
“On behalf of the NATO Command and myself it is an honor and a pleasure to welcome all the members of the NATO nations serving in the United States of America to experience jointly the celebration of the longstanding, exemplary and great relationship between NATO and the City of Norfolk." – said General Denis Mercier, the Commander of ACT on the festival. He added: “We, NATO-soldiers feel at home here, in Norfolk, and we are glad that we can share with you the national culture, history and military traditions of the nine NATO Member Nations and the six partner nations."
