Successful Cooperation

Held annually for 18 years now, the Hungarian–Romanian Exercise Wise Foresight has had several novelties this year. With the changing security environment, the participants focused on countering hybrid warfare, and a number of American troops also joined the work of the Hungarian–Romanian Joint Peacekeeping Battalion in the framework of the NATO-level exercise series Operation Atlantic Resolve.

Finding a Common Ground

Brave Warrior 2015 is probably the most complex tactical exercise of the year in Hungary, Exercise Director Brig.-Gen. Gábor Horváth, the commander of the HDF 25th “György Klapka” Infantry Brigade told us in an interview. In the week starting 12 October, the combined American-Hungarian companies are executing tactical maneuvers coupled with live fire exercise in the Bakony Hills, weather permitting.

They Have Crossed the River Danube

American Stryker combat vehicles, Humvees and Hungarian BTRs crossed the Moson branch of River Danube on 17 September. All the high-ranking guests attending the VIP day of Exercise Brave Warrior 2015 were of the opinion that the two NATO allies have given proof of their excellent cooperation.

Jackal Cave 2015 – Special Cooperation

The Foundation Stone Has Been Laid

The most significant part of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) Infrastructure Development Project has started with a foundation stone ceremony at HDF Pápa Air Base on April 20. The participants of the ceremony placed a time capsule in the foundation stone, which will be opened on April 20, 2040.

A Kind of America – Part 2

One obstacle is no obstacle – so let’s take two for a start. Equipped with modified Stryker combat vehicles, Raptor Team – a combined engineer platoon of the US 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment – had no problem in breaching a dual obstacle while in engagement with the enemy at Exercise Saber Junction 2015 in Germany. A Strong Standoff

The prevailing opinion here is that the opposing force (OPFOR) usually wins. While participating in Exercise Saber Junction 2015, the rifle company of the HDF 25th “Klapka György” Infantry Brigade of Tata has already proven this dogma wrong, and its latest combat maneuver has at least been a strong standoff against an OPFOR that has vehicles more mobile than the BTRs and far better knowledge of the terrain. Hungarian Bridges for NATO

“On exercises like this, soldiers of different nations learn how they can work together, and they also learn common procedures for conducting joint operations to attain a common objective”, Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, Chief of Defence said at the international press conference of Exercise Saber Junction 2015 in Hohenfels, Germany on April 15. According to Lt.-Gen. Ben Hodges, Commanding General US Army Europe (USAREUR), in the future NATO should even more fully utilize the Hungarian Defence Forces’ engineering and bridging capabilities. (Report from the spot!)
