The international search and rescue tactical field training exercise Cooperative SAREX 2014 has started with an opening ceremony. The participants include two Slovenian observers, and Turkey is represented on the exercise with 34 personnel and technical equipment. Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the HDF Pápa Air Base on September 1, Exercise Director Col. Pál Szűcs, Air Force Operations and Training Chief, HDF Joint Force Command emphasized that both parties would gain a lot of very useful experience in the next two weeks.

Five Years, More than 1,000 Missions

The Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) community celebrated reaching five years of flight operations at the HDF Pápa Air Base on Friday, 29 August 2014. The Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), the operational arm of the world’s first and only operational multinational airlift program completed the first SAC airlift mission in August 2009. Since then, the C–17 Globemasters have achieved over 14,000 flight hours transporting 44,000 tons of cargo and over 56,000 passengers.

Happy Birthday, „Ancsa”!

Miracle in Four Years

The Military Memorial Park – Pákozd (MMPP) is starting its fifth season this year. This is something of a minor miracle indeed, especially if we recall the time when the news were about the inevitable renovation of a solitary memorial to the 1848/49 War of Independence. And back then, where were, for example, “The School of Patriotism”, the peacekeepers’ monument or the 1956 memorial site…?

We Must Preserve Common Military Capabilities

Africa, the Challenge of the Future

From this year on there is just one general officer’s position available in the foreign missions operating under the NATO and EU aegis that can be occupied by a Hungarian soldier. Brigadier General András Szűcs, Chief of the Reconnaissance Directorate of the Defence Staff will take over the Chief of Staff’s position of the EU ALTHEA Mission from his predecessor in the near future. Among many other soldiers they bade Godspeed to him, as well, with all due solemnities at the HDF Joint Forces Command (HDF JFC) Headquarters during a combined farewell and welcome home ceremony, arranged on Wednesday, January 29.

HAW: Transported Charity Fair

Instead of the smell of kerosene, a charming mixture of Christmas smells filled the air at the HDF Pápa Base Airport, on Sunday, November 24. The families of the soldiers of the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) arranged an Advent fair, and offered the proceeds for charity.

Deployable CIS Module Receives High-tech Asset

The national Deployable CIS Module (DCM-E) recently received from NATO a state-of-the-art CIS asset. On September 10, Minister of Defence Csaba Hende was also present at the capability demonstration of the Limited Interim NRF CIS Capability – Enhanced (LINC-E) system.
