We have learnt very important lessons in real-life situations – often during combat engagements – in our missions abroad, especially with ISAF, Afghanistan”, said Csaba Hende in Hódmezővásárhely on April 16.

The Minister of Defence attended the opening ceremony of the “Warrior-program" in the
Hódmezővásárhely garrison barracks of the HDF 5th “Bocskai István" Infantry Brigade. He
added that these combat lessons are the most up-to-date military knowledge.

The aim of this program is to integrate battlefield lessons – for example, those learned by
Hungarian troops serving with the ISAF mission in Afghanistan – into the training scheme.
Altogether 60 enlisted/career soldiers and volunteer operational reservists of the Hungarian
Defence Forces are participating in the four-week training which started on April 15.

Several of the seasoned and creditable trainers proudly wear the “Service Medal with
Swords", which was founded by Defence Minister Csaba Hende in 2010. Its recipients are
Hungarian soldiers who have proven themselves and showed determination in firefights as
well. The 19-strong training cadre is responsible for providing physical and mental training
for the applicants during practices such as land navigation, commanders’ duties, small unit
tactics (SUT), firefight and close quarter battle (CQB), and the use of combat life saver (CLS)
skills in practice.

The Warrior-program is different from other types of training because here we are using
lessons from international missions and sharing them with the training audience", Capt. Attila
Nagy, the commander of the training cadre in the Warrior-program told us.
