Szöveg: kormany.hu |  2011. február 22. 13:50

The next informal meeting of EU defence ministers will be held on 2425 February in Budapest and Gödöllő. The host of the event is Csaba Hende, Minister of Defence. The working dinner and the working sessions will be chaired by Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The adoption of the Lisbon Treaty and the creation of the European External Action Service have enabled the European Union to act on the global stage as an integral and active player. The purpose of the meeting is to faciliate the process of attaining the European Union’s objectives in foreign policy by promoting the formation of new thoughts and laying the groundwork for new decisions in the field of common security and defence policy. The ministers – in the presence of the leaders of the operations, the Chairman of the EU Military Committee, and the Director General of the EU Military Staff – will discuss the current issues of ongoing EU military operations at a formal dinner on February 24.

In the framework of two working sessions that will be held in Gödöllő on February 25, the ministers will explore the directions to be followed in defence policy and the key questions regarding recent national security initiatives. During the working sessions – which will be attended by NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen – there will also be an opportunity to discuss the issues of strategic partnership between the EU and NATO, as well as the EU and the UN.
