Exercise Immediate Response 2014 in Slovenia

Exercise Immediate Response 2014 started with an opening ceremony on August 17 in Postojna, Slovenia. The Hungarian participants of the exercise are drawn from the HDF 5th Bocskai István Infantry Brigade. The objective is to train the medical staffs in an international environment for a week while using English as the common working language.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dobran Bozic, Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Maj.-Gen. Walter E. Piatt, Deputy Commanding General for United States Army, Europe (USAREUR), Col. Jeffrey Meeker, the director of the exercise simulation centre and Brig.-Gen. Miha Skerbnic, Commander, Slovenian Armed Forces 1st Brigade and Jernej Vervic, the mayor of Postojna. After the opening ceremony, the troops of the participating nations and the interested civilians saw an exhibition of the Slovanian Armed Forces’ military equipment and a musical program by the SAF military band.

Held under the sponsorship of USAREUR, the brigade-level trilateral command post and tactical field training exercise (CPX/FTX) Immediate Response 2014 involves 11 nations and is going on in two countries, Slovenia and Croatia. The exercise is complemented with humanitarian aid and disaster relief missions. The medical staffs of military organizations are augmented with logistic sections, EOD technicians, SAR teams, the organization of the Slovenian Red Cross and Slovenian civil protection.

During the two-week exercise, after completing some academic classes, the participants will respond to simulated disasters in which the medical personnel will be testing its interoperability with the operative staff in task execution. The ROLE-1 personnel of the Bocskai Brigade have the mission of executing the simulated tasks in close cooperation with the Slovenian ROLE-1 personnel, but as a separate medical unit assigned to the US ROLE-2.
