Increasing Security Challenges, Reviving Hungarian Defence Forces

During the meeting held for Hungary’s heads of mission in Budapest, Minister of Defence Dr. Tibor Benkő spoke about the new security challenges affecting Europe, the historic development, modernization of the Hungarian Defence Forces among others.

During meeting the heads of mission received a comprehensive picture from the members of the Government formed in May, about the new objectives, directions, tasks for the following period. In his lecture the Minister of Defence pointed out that so as Europe could respond adequately to the security challenges, the highest possible co-operation is required, in which the enhancement of the regional co-operation plays a vital role.

Dr. Tibor Benkő emphasised that Hungary is the dedicated, reliable member of NATO, and the goal of the Ministry of Defence is the creation of a modern, competent army, which strengthens NATO, as the strength of the Alliance lies in the combined capabilities of the countries.

In his lecture Dr. Tibor Benkő also touched upon the Zrínyi 2026 National Defence and Armed Forces Development Program, noting that with the phased implementation of the Program the realisation of such a development plan was started, which is built on the preparedness of our soldiers, the capability demands of the Hungarian Defence Forces, in addition to taking account of the new type of security challenges arising from the geostrategic situation of Hungary.
