Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Visits Hungary

Chief of Defence General Dr. Tibor Benkő received Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) General Denis Mercier on a two-day official visit between 28 February and 1 March.

General Denis Mercier has been Supreme Allied Commander Transformation at NATO ACT since March 2015. The last time he visited Hungary was during the NATO Transformation Seminar in Budapest last March.

On the first day of the visit, at the plenary talks, General Mercier was briefed about the structure and tasks of the Hungarian Defence Forces, the implementation of the NATO NCO strategy, and the experiences of managing the migration crisis.  Further topics of discussion included the international engagements of the Hungarian Defence Forces, the activity of transformation at national and international levels, and the “Baseline Requirements for National Resilience", a new system of criteria introduced into the NATO Defence Planning Process last year.

On the second day of the visit, General Denis Mercier was received, on courtesy calls, by Chief of Defence General Dr. Tibor Benkő, Minister of Defence of Hungary Dr. István Simicskó and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó. In what followed, General Mercier was briefed on the details of the Zrínyi 2026 National Defence and Armed Forces Development Program and the activities of the MoD Defence Technology Research Centre, and then gave a lecture to students at the National University of Public Service on strategic aspects of the transformation activities of the Alliance.
